“My Kid is Queer…
Now What?!”

Discovering that your child is flying their own rainbow flag can be a beautiful yet challenging moment in your parenting journey. As a parent, you want to support them wholeheartedly, but the path forward may feel unfamiliar and daunting. You might worry about saying or doing the wrong thing, or perhaps you need to repair or strengthen your relationship.

While support groups are valuable, sometimes they don’t provide the time or space to address the unique dynamics and specific challenges within your family. That’s where personalized parent coaching comes in.

With my experience and understanding, I provide dedicated, individualized support tailored to your family’s needs. Together, we’ll navigate this journey with compassion and confidence, ensuring you have the tools and insights to be the best parent for your queer child.

The C.A.R.E. Process For Parents

Compassion Inspires Action

The last thing we want is for our children to experience pain so of course we want to help them when they are struggling. But that feeling of compassion can too easily lead to parenting over rather than with. We need to step back and discover what our child actually needs, not through the lens of what we believe is best for them.

Awareness Brings Clarity

Allyship parenting requires self-awareness and awareness of your child’s identity and development. We all have intrinsic biases and the way we were parented often shows up and not always in the most helpful ways. Discovering what you bring to your role learning who your child is becoming can open doors to communication and understanding.

Respect Fosters Security

Believe who your child tells you they are in this moment – it may change. Allow them to take the lead on this journey while acknowledging that are on your own path. These are some key aspects of respecting your child and creating a truly safe and affirming home that will provide your child with the security to be their authentic self.

Empathy Facilitates Connection

You will never truly understand your queer child’s lived experience, and you don’t have to. Sometimes we rush to fix or provide perspective when what they truly need is for us to listen actively and validate them, their feelings, and their experiences. Connecting with your queer child and determining together what action may be needed is allyship in action.
